Hats as a shorthand for character

Now that men’s hats are not universally worn, it’s possible for photographers, publicists and stylists to use them as a shorthand for character. This is clear in the publicity material for “Ruben Guthrie”, a play by Brendan Cowell showing at Sydney’s Belvoir Street Theatre.

An open crowned blog

An open crown is one that hasn't yet been given a shape by bashing or pinching. The hat may be left open crowned or it might be styled by its owner to his taste.
