A conversation with Rosie Boylan, hatmaker
Posted By Steven Lewis on May 30, 2009
The first Open Crown podcast is a conversation with Rosie Boylan, Sydney-based hatmaker. Although Rosie and I met first only about six weeks ago, she has already styled or made three hats for me, including the straw hat in the Open Crown podcast album art.
Working with Rosie — and it is a collaboration, albeit an unequal one — has been such a pleasure that I wanted to sit down and talk with her about hats, the process of working with a client, and what is happening around the world. (Rosie recently got back to Australia after travelling the world as part of a Churchill research fellowship in hats.)
Rosie’s jobs have included the hats for the films Moulin Rouge and Australia, among many, many others.
If you want to talk hats, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone more interesting to talk to than Rosie.
I would value your comments and feedback on the podcast. Is there anything you think a podcast about hats should cover? Anyone you would like to hear interviewed?

Steven, really enjoyed the Podcast, it gives me the courage to wear my Akubra more often. I don’t think you have a large head…
I would love to hear more podcasts of this caliber. I hope you find the opportunity to post another soon.
